Like him hope he stays but he's on nearly 70k p/w when you include what New U are paying him at the same time as us,

I thought when players go out on loan the home club (in this case newcastle) don't pay the wages, its the club the player goes to? That's the whole point...

Nicky Butt is doing his best. He can no longer get about the pitch, his passing is not as good as it was, and when he gets beyond the forwards, he cannot recover quickly enough. Yes, he has improved recently but the way we play with everyone having to get stuck in because of the situation we are in, he is going to have 'good games'.
Over the course of a season though he has added nothing special. He passes square, cannot drive forward with the ball and fades after about 60 minutes. For £40 k a week, at his age, he is not worth it.
As for him coining in 70k a week, get real! The loan club pays his wages, not both of them, dummy!
I would rather have a Reo Coker, Sidwell Kilkenny etc in midfield. Savage proved the other night that it is a young man's game in central midfield. From what I heard Bruce didn't want him but basically was told it was Butt on loan (a big name to appease the fans) or no one. Had Nafti not got injured, Butt wouldn't have played at all this season. He's a younger, more mobile version.

I'm not sure about the arrangements with Nicky Butt, but it is not that unusual for clubs to share the wages when very highly paid players are loaned out.

e.g.

If butt was on £70k / week at Newcastle, there would be no way than anyone would take him on loan at those wages. From Newcastle's point of view better to pay him £30k / week to go on loan (with Blues paying the other £40k) than to keep paying him £70k in the reserves.

As I said, I don't know the deal with Nicky Butt, just making the point that clubs do sometimes share wage costs when players are loaned.
